Wine Identity

  • Origin and philosophy

Alta Langa DOCG is born from a rigorous production process: high altitudes, manual harvesting, a minimum 30-month aging period, and only vintage production.

Each bottle is the result of careful viticulture and an oenological vision that favors quality over quantity.

Podere Gagliassi interprets this denomination with an essential and clean style: fine perlage, great freshness and elegant structure.

An Alta Langa sparkling wine for discerning palates, which authentically showcases the altitude and terroir.

  • A different and unique Classic Method

Alta Langa DOCG stands out among Italian and international Classic Method sparkling wines for its strict production regulations and the altitude of its vineyards. Unlike Franciacorta (where the average altitude is lower) or Trento DOC (where large volumes are also produced), Alta Langa is produced exclusively on hillsides, above 250 meters, and only as a vintage.

Compared to Champagne, Alta Langa shares the refinement and gastronomic vocation, but differs in:

    • a clearer and more mineral profile, due to the calcareous-clayey soils of the Langhe
    • a fine but drier, less “creamy” and more vertical perlage

Podere Gagliassi interprets this denomination with a style that combines technical precision, acidic tension, and aromatic purity, offering a sparkling wine with its own identity, not imitation, that can proudly stand alongside the great European sparkling wines, while remaining deeply rooted in Piedmontese tradition.

  • Altitude, precision, authenticity

Grown at altitude, this sparkling wine is born from rigorous vinification and prolonged aging that allows the wine to develop aromatic finesse, creaminess and mineral tension.

Technical data sheet

  • Grapes and harvest

Grape variety: 50% Chardonnay, 50% Pinot Noir

    Harvest: manual, August

The early harvest guarantees natural acidity, essential for keeping the wine in the bottle and for a fresh taste.

  • Vinification and refinement

The wine is made from a gentle pressing of the grapes, followed by an initial fermentation in stainless steel, which preserves freshness and aromas. The second fermentation then takes place in the bottle according to the Classic Method, imparting complexity, finesse, and an elegant perlage.

Aging: 36 months on the lees in the bottle

The long contact with the yeasts develops complexity, creaminess and a fine, persistent bubble, a distinctive characteristic of the great classic methods.

Tasting notes

  • Color and scent

Bright straw yellow with golden highlights. Fine and persistent perlage.

On the nose it opens with notes of bread crust, toasted hazelnut, citrus and rennet apple, followed by floral scents and a delicate mineral hint.

  • Taste and structure

On the palate, it's fresh, vibrant, and precise, with a creamy, well-integrated perlage. Excellent acidity, balanced flavors, and a long, clean, and savory finish with citrus and saline aftertaste.

Vineyard

Alta Langa Extra Brut represents one of the noblest and most rigorous expressions of Piedmont's Metodo Classico sparkling wine. Originating on the highest hills of the Langhe, over 250 meters above sea level, this appellation combines vertical elegance, crisp acidity, and a gastronomic vocation. Podere Gagliassi's Alta Langa DOCG is a vintage cuvée, aged for 36 months on the lees, produced in limited quantities from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. A sparkling wine from the Alta Langa designed for those seeking depth, precision, and a territorial identity.
